Princesses pee pee in the potty...

So, we potty trained Harper over the weekend of June 22nd and 23rd.  It was her birthday weekend so it kinda stunk that we didn't really go anywhere for her actual birthday.  But we celebrated a few weeks before and then had Cody's birthday and Taylor's birthday, so we thought it would be too confusing to try to celebrate it again.  Plus, the family was out of town so it was a quiet few days to try to focus on it (and for them not to see when she had an accident :).

We did the stay at home for "5 (LONG) days" method.  She has been able to tell us that she needed to go for awhile and she is pretty regular, so we thought we'd give it a try.  We only told a few people because I wanted to be able to ignore our attempt if we failed.  Potty training is so hard and everyone's kid does it differently, so I just went with "don't tell yet" method too.

Laying on the ground in undies.  Potty Training is exhausting for everyone.

Day 1 and 2 were pretty similar.  She ran around in underwear, no clothes, and we would ask her every 10 minutes if she had to go, or put her on the potty every 30 minutes if she hadn't gone.  She got very annoyed that we were asking.  She also did NOT like the big potty.  She had to hold on and it seemed uncomfortable.  She had a couple accidents but thankfully they were all on tile (right near the potty!) or didn't leak onto anything.  By the end of day 2, we had stayed in the house for 48 hours except to step outside and feed the dogs.  It was LONG.

Not happy about something.  That happens alot when you stay home for 5 days straight.

Day 3 was a breaking point for Harper and me.  She would look at me and tell me she had to pee, and then proceed to pee right where she was.  She knew what to do, she just didn't want to.  She didn't want to sit on the big potty, she didn't want to be patient, she wanted to go somewhere, she was just unhappy.  I was seriously frustrated.  So at naptime, I found her mini potty and we tried that for the rest of the day.  Since it still wasn't happening, I went for a run to let go of some anger, and decided we would just stop and try again in a few months.  When I got back, Cody and Harper were on the little potty and she had done it!  Success!  We decided to try for one more day.

100's of stickers

Day 4 was our first real day of success.  She had only 1 accident and went on her little potty a few times.  She loves her little potty.  It is pink with Disney princesses on it and the flush makes a sound.  She actually likes to just sit on it and relax.  She plays with her ipad toy or reads a book.  Day 4 seemed like the beginning of life without diapers.

Playing with her ipad toy before we got the little potty.

Day 5 and 6 were great.  She didn't have hardly any accidents and we had fun, easy days.  We went for a walk with the dogs to get out of the house.  One of the main reasons she potty trained well is that she doesn't drink much liquids (no milk, just water).  So she only pees a few times a day.  Makes life easier when she finally goes, you know you have a few hours to do something fun.

We gave her a fun cup to encourage her to drink more water.  She did pretty good drinking from her first real cup, but after the 3rd big spill, I was tired of cleaning water up.

Day 7 was our first day to get out of the house.  We ran an errand in the morning and one in the afternoon.  She did a great job of telling me when she had to go so we could run to the store's restrooms and go real quick.  Most people give their kids candy to reward them, but Harper can't have any of that.  So she got rewarded with Bunnies.  They are Annie's organic snacks that are soy free (cheesy ones like goldfish and honey ones like teddy grahams).  Man, don't mention "bunnies" in our house if you don't have snack ready!

Showing her reward for going potty!

She is doing really great now.  She is telling us when she has to go.  She prefers to go #2 alone.  She will tell me "Stop it!  Self!" so I don't follow her into the bathroom.  She can pull her clothes on and off and can even dump out her own potty into the toilet.  We still have random accidents, but she is doing so good.

Her "lucky" cheek hanging out.  SERIOUSLY CUTE!

A week was long and hard, but it worked well for us.  We played tons of toys and watched some shows.  We don't have to lug diapers around anymore, but now we have to always have a change of clothes.  And if she doesn't want to do something, like take a bath, she will pretend she has to sit on the potty for a very long time.  But we are proud of her.  And we have definitely talked more about this issue than we ever thought was possible.  :)

It looks like a house!

It may not be pretty yet, but it's finally starting to look like a house!  Everything has been framed and new sheetrock put up.  We have texture on all the walls and ceilings.  New doors and molding has been put on.  All the floors have been pulled up or scraped up.

Here is what we have left...  Paint on all the walls, ceilings, doors, molding, kitchen and bathroom cabinets goes on this week.  Floors go in next week.  Granite the week after and all the other little details after that (doorknobs, light fixtures, etc).  We are hoping to move in two weeks from now, after the floors.  Then it won't be a disaster zone and we'll at least be able to sleep there and get more work done from there.

New A/C unit installed in the attic

3 layers of linoleum being scraped off the floor

Kitchen Cabinets installed
Cody and his dad installed these themselves.

So far, we've only did a small portion of the work ourselves, and it's still been a beast.
We go up to Denison and one of us watches Harper while the other one works at the house.
But we can already tell that she is getting tired of being carted around to do housework and look at stuff
for the house.  Cody goes up sometimes by himself to work outside and try to get everything in order.
It's ALOT!  But we are close to the end and I'm soooo ready!

Frank Buck Zoo

For Harper's 2nd birthday, we took a family trip to the zoo.  Since we live in Denton, the Frank Buck Zoo was pretty close.  Plus, it's a lot smaller and has way less people there, so it was perfect.  Harper is seriously into animals lately.  She loves to see them, make animal noises, and read books about animals.  But she does call them "onimols", which is pretty cute.

Cody was very excited to take Harper to Frank Buck Zoo.  It was the zoo he always went to because it was closest to Denison.  It has at least doubled in size since he was younger but he still got a bit nostalgic.

A little scared of the bears

Bunnies (and armadillos?)

The goats were one of the best features.  You can buy some food (a lot like dog food) and feed them goats through the window in the fence.  They just jump up and try to lick your hand off while gobbling the food as fast as possible.  It feels funny and it's actually really funny to watch.  The all black goat was a meanie and always tried to butt the other goats out of the way.

We walked around the whole zoo and stopped to eat snack and take a break.  It was really hot and muggy there because all the animals need tons of trees for shade so it was almost like the heat and moisture were getting stuck near the ground.  But after awhile we headed back around to go feed the giraffe and see the animals one more time.

For one dollar, you got to feed the giraffe a leaf of lettuce.  It was pretty cool to be so close to such a large and gentle animal.  This giraffe stood about 2 stories tall and it's baby was only like 8 feet tall.  Harper was so excited that she threw her lettuce at the giraffe and it had to find it on the fence rail to eat it.

After the zoo, Harper really wanted to play in the playground for a bit.  It's an all wooden playground that is big and tons of fun to play hide and seek in.  She played there, watched the choo-choo train for awhile, and then we headed home.

Cody's Father's Day and Birthday Celebration

Father's Day weekend was also Cody's birthday weekend.  We love celebrating Cody.  He's our favorite guy, the best husband, the most amazing dad, and one of the best guys of all time (GOAT!).

We planned a WHOLE day full of family time and it turned out well.  We went to church and we sat in the back, because it's Cody's favorite seats.  We grabbed lunch on the way home and walked around outside by the pond.  It was a nice and peaceful morning.

Harper wanted to spend every single minute with Cody for Father's Day
so even when he was busy, she waited for him...

Harper trying on her new puddle jumper and sitting in her
new chair (she LOVES finding new places to sit).

Taylor and Carleigh were on their first mission trip to Virginia for a week.  They had a fabulous time, serving others less fortunate than most of the people we know.  They got home around lunchtime and sat on the couches like this for a solid couple of hours.  But Harper was SO happy to have them home.

After nap, we went to Kristen's to celebrate with Mark and my mom.  We got to swim in their pool for the first time and we had a great time.  Harper learned to float with her puddle jumper and jump off the side into the pool.  We swam and sat in the sun and had a fabulous, relaxing afternoon.  Grayson loves the water and was showing Harper his cannonball tricks.  Reesey was in the water for awhile but has her water table "cage" that she likes too.

She loves her dad!

Of course we played baseball.

Harper and Reesey are quickly becoming bffs.

Singing happy birthday to Cody.  He got a some new camo crocs and a DD book.

The next day we went to Denison to celebrate Father's day, birthdays, and see our house.  The house looks good and we are SO ready for it to get done.  We spent time hanging outside on Buddy and Serena's patio.  It was a great day, with just enough breeze, so it was a good indicator of a nice, quiet, country life.  Fabulous steak dinner and presents all around and back to Argyle in one day.

Harper got a little used to receiving presents and being the center of attention for her birthday.
So when it was Cody's turn, she just had to show him how to do it.

After 3 years of searching, we found Buddy a new camping chair with an attached stool.

Harper's new book for her 2nd birthday.

The day after Denison, we celebrated Cody and Taylor's birthdays (32 and 17) and Dad's father's day.  We had chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes, Cody and Taylor's favorite.

New T. Swift blanket - OMG fer sure

Found this little gem and we wore it all day on his birthday.
I LOVE MY DAD!
