Paige is 9 Months!

Paige is 9 months old, 3/4 of a year, almost there.  It's insane how fast time has flown.  We are in a really fun and hard stage.  She is learning so much and having so much fun.  She is so exciting to watch each day.  But she wants to be big.  She wants to walk and let go.  She wants to eat regular food.  Sweet little baby.

She weighs 18 pounds 8 ounces and is 27 inches long.  Which is 60th and 50th percentiles; so not as huge as we thought.  She is in 9 month clothing but still wears a few 6 month things and has started to wear 12 month things.  Just because we don't have a ton of 9 month things and Kristen gave us a bunch of 12 month winter clothes from Reese.  She is in size 3 diapers, which I think we will be for awhile.  She just recently switched to a 4 hour bottle schedule.  I'm not sure it will work, but we are trying.  She stopped drinking her bottles for awhile and it just seemed like she wasn't hungry.  She gets a bottle at 7, 11, 3, and 7.  Morning nap and afternoon nap and sometimes a catnap in between.  Bed after her last bottle and lately she has been doing a great job of sleeping all night.  She was sleeping until 7:30 which was amazing, however Daylight Savings Time screwed her schedule and she's been waking up between 5 and 6.  Brutal.  And usually she poops right when she wakes up, so she doesn't fall back to sleep.  Sometimes she is good with the 4 hour schedule and sometimes it's too long. But she has done well all week with childcare.  They were all shocked that she was in such a good mood for them.  It's a good change.

She is still drinking about 6 ounces per bottle.  She likes to stroke the arm of whoever is feeding her.  It's actually the cutest thing she does.  Just up and down, up and down, which she sits there.  She is eating breakfast, lunch and dinner.  She eats grapes, strawberries, black beans, green beans, turkey, pancakes, applesauce, and potatoes.  She goes through weeks of loving something and then weeks of not touching that same food.  The one food that she has loved the whole time and scarf down is Greek vanilla yogurt.  It's our permanent backup.  She of course still loves puffs like they are a major food group.  And yogurt melts, wagon wheels, and cheese crunchies.  Any processed crap that kids love she is all over it.

She is so big.  She is crawling around and pulling up on everything. She can walk along furniture and loves to just stand up and see around the room.  Her main problem is when she is up on furniture and can't get down.  She isn't sure how to bend forward without letting go and can't sit down without falling back too hard.  It's her main struggle and it makes her very unhappy.  She crawls back and forth through the house, following Harper around.  She stands at the coffee table and bangs her hands down. She pulls up on the doll high chairs and almost takes it down every time.  She pulls up on the train table and looks around so we can applaud her.  She stands up at the fireplace and tries to look straight up at the TV.  Paige is so big!  She finally learned to jump so she likes her jumparoo.  And she decided she doesn't like her walker anymore.  It's too controlling, she can't steer it well enough to go where she wants.  But she still likes to play on it so she pulls up and stands on the rim.  This kid is fearless.  I have realized we might have a daredevil on our hands.  She acts like she is invincible.  This also includes the bathtub which terrifies me.  She likes to crawl around, pull up on the slippery tub side, and then flop back down.  She's always getting very close to hurting herself, but she just won't sit still.

One of the bad parts of this age is not really understanding and following when we tell her no.  She kind of knows what it means, in that she will pause for just a second to look at us, but then will continue on with what she was doing.  She eats anything she can get her hands on.  Paper is her go to, but she puts lots of leaves, dirt, toys, etc in her mouth to try to eat.  I feel bad because I have no idea how much paper she has actually consumed, and I know I was much more alert to Harper at this phase, but she's the second baby so I know that a little paper won't hurt her.  On that note, I have learned to let go of so many little things.  I am not controlling of her schedule to the minute.  She had french fries last week.  If she misses a meal, it's no big deal.  She doesn't get a new diaper every single time she pees.  Everyone always says, oh she's wet, you need to change her.  No, she's a baby, there is pee in her diaper 24/7.  I can leave her in a room while I do something else real quick.  That's the amazing joy of having an older child to help you out.  Second babies are definitely different to parent than firsts.

She is also talking, way faster than Harper I feel.  She said Mama a few weeks ago.  She used to say it mostly when she was upset about something, but now she says it fairly frequently.  She can say Ba-Ba for bottle and Pa-Pa for pacifier.  And today she said Baby.  A real word, not just a repeated sound.  I couldn't believe it but was so glad I got to witness it.  She just kept playing with Harper's baby doll and repeating the word.  Sweet girl.  We are still working on Dada and Sister.  I have a feeling Dog is coming next though because they fascinate her.

She doesn't like baby toys.  She just wants to crawl, pull up, and eat.  She is fickle about the temperature of her bottle, it must be just warm enough not to be lukewarm.  She hates getting her face wiped off.  She goes to sleep easily as long as she has her paci and her blankey.  She has the best nose-squenched toothy grin that she does when she snorts and laughs.  She is almost always smiling and happy, especially when she gets attention.  She likes poops alot.  She has a fear of stranger danger, and it is much more heightened at night when she is tired.  She likes being outside.  Her hair is getting longer and longer and is so soft and pretty.  She loves to laugh, especially at Harper.  She hates being left alone.  She screams and cries if I leave the room without her and will follow me, crawling slowly and sadly, bawling the whole time.  She gets excited when Cody gets home from school and always wants to go to him.  She sleeps more when she gets more sleep, and sleeps less the less sleep she gets.  It's so frustrating.  She is our sweet Paigie girl and we love her so stinking much!

So big so fast!

As far as we have planned (I know life changes some...), Paige is our last.  It's been two hard pregnancies and two hard newborn stages.  So as she hit 6 months and counting, I have been realizing how many lasts I'm experiencing.  Paige just seems to grow overnight sometimes.  She went from sitting to crawling to standing in like 5 days.  She doesn't care for toys, she just wants to stand up and be big.  She wants to follow Harper and be big instead of little.  She stands up at her activity center and will just bang her hands around forever.  She falls a lot, but somehow that doesn't stop her.  She is a wild child, just like her big sister.

I love seeing Paige in some of my favorite clothes that Harper wore.  It makes me so sentimental and sappy.  And I can usually find a picture of Harper in it from 4 years ago.  This dress I got when Harper was born.  I have the same one in a light purple.  I've always loved them because they are simple and yet she always looked so cute in them.  Since Harper and Paige were born in opposite seasons, so they ended up wearing them at different times.  Paige wore it at 6-9 months because I wanted her get to wear it a few times before winter.  Harper wore it at 12-18 months when summer hit.  Oddly enough, it fit them both.  Which makes me cry because it means that Paige is big and growing up and almost not a baby anymore.  But she looks pretty cute!

October Fun

October was fun.  Lots of events and places to go.  It was nice weather so we spent lots of time outdoors.  Paige is getting bigger and is way more fun.  She just crawls all over the house and follows us from room to room.  She loves to be outside playing with Harper.  Cody had Kevin's bachelor party so we spent a weekend just girls.  We went to Lowe's and did a wood project.  It was fun, but it's more fun with Cody here.  That weekend was Labor Day so Cody had off on Monday.  He got to watch Harper's gymnastics class and she loved showing off on the trampoline for him.  Our girls are getting so big.

Paige has started eating foods all on her own.  I'm pretty over feeding her so I'm super thankful that the baby food phase is done.  She actually likes feeding herself way more.  She loves fruits and will eat some vegetables.  Grapes and black beans are big right now.  She won't eat pancakes in the morning, which is crazy.  She also won't eat bananas, which is annoying.  But just like Harper, I'm sure it will all come and go in waves.  At night, she is sometimes so tired that she can barely eat.  Sweet baby.

We are thankful for the Haddock's.  We have been spending lots of time with Lorna, Reagan, and Presley since all of our other friends have started school full time.  It's been fun!  We go to the gym, gymnastics class, the library, and tons of shopping.  Harper and Reagan are good friends and play well together and Harper loves to help Presley and be her little mama.  Which works out because Reagan likes to play with Paige.  Presley wasn't quite sure about Paige at first, but I think she is warming up to her.  It had rained more this month than I think is normal, so we have gone to the library to play in the new kids area.  It's awesome.  They have fun and we just get to sit and chat.

Harper is doing much better.  She seems to be feeling better and we are working on lots of attitude adjustments.  She still loves to color and draw.  We haven't been doing preschool much...at all really.  I'm so done by 3pm and I usually still have tons to do.  She is too much of a fashionista these days.  It's been hard to get her dressed in the morning.  Somehow I bought her about 20 long sleeve tees for this winter, but she only wants to wear dresses, which she only has about 5 of.  It's a struggle every day.  She actually sat in front of her full closet one morning and said "I have nothing to wear."  She must be Kristen's kid.  But when she does get to wear something she likes, she is so cute.  She stares at herself in the mirror and tells me how pretty she is.

Random things... Taylor came out of hiding from freshman year and we have gotten to snapchat, facetime, and talk with her lots more.  Since she runs Harper's instagram account, I like getting notifications like these...  I finally gave up on the plant that I have been barely keeping alive for years.  I hate gardening because I am so bad at it.  And I am so over clutter.  Our playroom was so full.  We pretty much have 4 years of toys and we can't really get rid of any of them yet.  It took me weeks to clean it all out and it is better, though it almost looks the same.

Taylor is a college girl!

We wanted to go see Taylor for her freshman year at the University of Arkansas.  She is rooming with Gentry Sutherland, her best friend from Argyle Methodist (she went to Marcus HS).  They live on the 10th floor of a dorm and they can see the whole campus.  They are having a great year.  School isn't too bad and they are getting to know a lot of the girls on their floor.  We waited until we got the camper so we could take it camping over the weekend in Arkansas.  Sadly, there was a huge rainstorm that Friday and it would have drowned our camper.  So we got a hotel and went Saturday instead of Friday.  We got there and it was the best reunion.  We hadn't seen Taylor in 3 months.  It was way too long for me and even worse for Harper.  She missed her TayTay.  When she saw her, she wanted to hide like she always does when people come visit, but she just couldn't wait.  She ran up to her and it was the sweetest hug ever.

We went to walk around campus and grab some lunch.  It is a beautiful campus with tons of history and lots of old buildings.  It was cool to walk around and see everything and all their classes.  After that, we had to go back to the dorm because it was Paige's naptime.  Cody stayed back to put her to sleep and the rest of us girls went shopping.  We just walked around the mall and looked in stores.  It's crazy how long it's been since I've just wandered around a mall.  We eventually headed back to campus and sadly got stuck in an hour of traffic when the football game ended.  It was horrible.  Harper was starving for food and I had nothing.  Cody had called and Paige had pooped and I had forgotten to leave a diaper.  I felt so lame (which happens a lot these days, but oh well).  We finally made it back and decided to go to dinner.  Taylor picked a hole in the wall place she had heard about and it looked totally sketchy (it was attached to a motel).  But it turned out to be amazing food.  Harper loved the fettucini alfredo and I probably could have eaten 5 loaves of their garlic bread.  After dinner, we dropped the girls off at the dorm and headed to our hotel.  It was an hour away (we couldn't get a hotel in Fayetteville because it was a game weekend).  We got there, put the girls to bed and fell asleep watching the A&M game.

The next morning, we got up and Taylor came out to see us.  We had breakfast and wandered around.  She had a class project to do and we all headed out just in time for Paige's nap.  It was a good trip home until the last hour and then both girls just couldn't handle it.  It was a fabulous weekend.  We missed Taylor so much!  We can't wait for holidays for her to come home.

Funny things that happened on the trip...

Gentry and Taylor's room is way smaller than I thought!  It's about 10x10, like mine freshman year.  Community bathrooms.  I know how life is in a dorm like that.  I'm impressed.

They miss babies and puppies.  Way more than is good for college freshman.  But I think they figured out how life with a baby in a dorm would be horrible.

Always keep a diaper handy, just in case.

Coffee is lifegiving.

Don't promise your 4 year old a play area at a mall if you have no idea if there is one.  When you are wrong, you'll have to answer to a sad, whiney 4 year old.

Not all crappy looking restaurants are crappy.

Sleeping in a hotel, with a full, comfortable, read bed and a full shower and free breakfast is so nice.  Especially compared to camping in a pop-up camper.  Although way more expensive.

I miss college.  But I am no longer college age.  What a bittersweet thought.
